200 HOUR TEACHER TRAINING 2020

Maitri Yoga is a 200 Hour Yoga Alliance® Registered Yoga School designed for sincere students of yoga who have the desire to take their yoga practice and life to the next level as well as for those who want to learn the tools of becoming a great yoga teacher. Once a month students will immerse themselves into the life and culture of ashram living and develop a deep understanding of Yoga,. The training, teaches you to incorporate asana, chanting, music, meditation, mindfulness, Ayurveda and scriptural study into a challenging practice and prepares students to live a fulfilled and empowering life. Our goal is to attract students across multiple backgrounds to produce emboldened, informed and confident yoga teachers.

STUDENTS WILL EXPERIENCE…

An immersion style yoga teacher training that will encourage participants to step out of the “daily grind” one weekend a month to focus solely on the ancient practice of yoga and how to become a well-rounded instructor. 

STUDENTS WILL LEARN…

All aspects of yoga, including: asana (how to develop vinyasa karma that are both intelligent and spiritually awakening), japa, pranayama, sadhana practice, early morning meditation practice, etc. By the end of the training, students will develop the habits and lifestyle of a yogi/yogini through the guidance and support of long time practitioners.

STUDENTS WILL RESIDE…

At Ananda Ashram, a Bhakti lineage ashram nestled in beautiful nature setting that allows for contemplation and deep yoga practice without the distractions of everyday life. Maitri Yoga trainings will have exclusive access to Ananda Ashrams evening programs that feature world-renowned teachers and scholars.

STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED…

Maitri Yoga 200-Hour Teacher Training is a 1-weekend a month residential program. We expect students to wake up early in preparation for a full day of curriculum. We encourage students to adopt (or become familiar with) a vegan/vegetarian diet prior to the start of the training.

ANANDA ASHRAM

Maitri Yoga 200 Hour Residential Teacher Training will be help at Ananda Ashram in Monroe, New York. This yoga retreat and spiritual-educational center is just over one hour from New York City, founded in 1964 by Shri Brahmananda Sarasvati (then Ramamurti S. Mishra, M.D.) as the country center of the Yoga Society of New York, Inc. Located in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains, the Ashram provides a serene, natural environment with woods and meadows surrounding a lake.

TEACHER TRAINING FAQ’S

HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR THE PROGRAM?
You can now sign up online! Check out the schedule at our 200-Hour Trainings at the top of this web page. Once you complete the registration form, we will follow up with you within 48 hours. A $500 deposit is due upon final enrollment to hold your spot. We will then set you up on a payment plan. Your final payment is due on the final weekend of teacher training. Full payment is required to receive your Certificate of Completion.
COULD YOU TELL ME ABOUT ANANDA ASHRAM ACCOMMODATIONS?
Accommodations are simple and meals are vegetarian. Guest and student accommodations provide dorm and semiprivate rooms with around fifty beds. Facilities include classrooms, meditation room, program halls, temples, memorial shrine, gift shop, seasonal swimming pool and publication center. The inspirational Ashram environment is well suited for a meditative retreat, holistic studies and exploration of the deeper aspects of life.
WHAT ARE THE PAYMENT PLANS?
Making your minimum deposit of $500 will hold your place in the training. Thereafter we will setup a payment plan with you that meets your budget and financial needs. However room and board must be paid in full prior to the first residential training weekend and, full payment must be received prior to your final weekend of teacher training. Full payment is required to receive your Certificate of Completion.
WHAT STYLE OF YOGA IS MAITRI YOGA TEACHER TRAINING?
Maitri Yoga is a fusion between Alignment Based Yoga and Asthanga/Vinyasa. Maitri Yoga teaches a method that balances precise instruction, detailed alignment, breath and fluid movement. Classes are carefully themed to deepen the students’ experience of Yoga. A flow of Sun Salutations and postures are skillfully sequenced while modifications and props are used to individualize the practice for each student. Maitri Yoga Teacher Training Program is based on this clear and effective style of practice. Maitri Yoga style classes can be paced moderately to vigorously depending on the level of the class.
HOW PROFICIENT IN YOGA DO I HAVE TO BE IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN MAITRI YOGA'S 200 HOUR PROGRAM?
At least one year of regular practice is recommended. No prior teaching experience is required for the 200-Hour Teacher Training program. You do not need to be flexible or injury free. The knowledge and experience you will gain during this program will afford you both flexibility and healing from the inside out and the outside in. We want to nurture your practice, cultivate your confidence and empower you with tools to forge a deeper relationship with your yoga both on and off the mat.
WHAT WILL I LEARN IN THE 200-HOUR MAITRI YOGA TEACHER TRAINING?
In addition to making lifelong friends and deepening your experience of yoga, you will study the following topics:

WHAT IF I DON'T WANT TO BE A TEACHER?
No problem! Our 200-Hour Teacher Training is ideal for those who want to delve deeper into the study of yoga and to improve their own practice. It’s also great for students who simply want to have a transformational experience and to be a part of our thriving Yoga community.
WHAT ARE GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS?
In order to receive a Certificate of Completion you must be paid in full and fulfill the following requirements:

  • Attendance of in-class teacher training sessions
  • Successful completion of homework, quizzes, in-class and take-home exams (don’t worry, you will be will prepared!)
  • Participation in a final in-class practice teaching practicum
  • Completion of class taking requirement
WHAT IS THE ATTENDANCE AND MAKE-UP CLASS POLICY?
Yoga Alliance requires that you complete all 200 hours of the teacher training. However, we understand that sometimes conflicts come up, and we have developed the make-up policy listed below. Please note that you can miss a maximum of 27 training hours, and you will have one year from the last day of your program to complete your attendance requirements. If you miss more than 27 hours or do not complete your make up hours within one year, you will receive a not passing status and will be required to pay in full to retake the training.

You have the following option for making up your missed time:   Schedule a private session with your trainer at some point during the program. The cost of a private session ranges from $100-$150 per hour:

•  1 hour private = 1-4 hours of missed time
•  1.5 hour private = 5-6 hours of missed time
•  2 hour private = 7-8 hours of missed time
•  2.5 hour private = 9-10 hours of missed time
•  3 hour private = 11-14 hours of missed time

Please note: Only two sessions of private instruction, regardless of hours, are allowable and are subject to trainer availability. The remainder of your missed time will need to be made up in a future training private make up sessions are only an option during your current training and are not an option once the program is complete.

IF I FAIL TO GET CERTIFIED WILL I GET A REFUND?
All fees for this training, including tuition and accommodations, are nonrefundable 30 days before the program begins. There is no refund if you leave the training early.

Maitri Yoga School Certification

Maitri Yoga School is a Registered Yoga School (RYS 200) at the 200-Hour level with Yoga Alliance. All graduates from Maitri Yoga School’s Yoga Teacher Training Program are eligible to become Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT 200). The RYT certification is the professional standard for those wanting to teach yoga.
